I have had problems over the past year with my laptop and have had to reinstall windows several times and always having to redo my itunes library. Since the new system had a different name than the old one, I only had to edit the xml file to change the name part of the string. After installing windows and iTunes on my new system, I used the WET program to put the stuff from my laptop onto the new system. I only used windows easy transfer for my c drive. I had a second drive in my laptop that had my itunes library on it and I put that drive into the desktop. I was moving from my laptop win 7 to a desktop win 7. It makes me happy to hear success stories.īill, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your helpful article. Even taking into account the issues with Windows 7's different folder hierarchy.īill Yovino (author) on February 10, 2013: Your instructions are very useful for anyone who wants to preserve the entire iTunes configuration. If not, recheck that you entered the correct information during the Find/Replace step. Navigate to the XML file that you edited, select it and click "OK".

  • Close the Notepad session and save the results.
  • In my case, I replaced C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/william.yovino/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iTunes with C:/Users/Bill%20Yovino/Music/iTunes It will take several seconds to replace all of the occurrences.

In my case it was "C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/william.yovino/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iTunes/".

  • Select the file location beginning at the "C:/" and ending at the "iTunes/".
  • Find the "File://localhost/" text as we did earlier.
  • Right-click the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" and select "Edit".
  • Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the XML file that you copied from your old computer in the step above.
  • The last step is to edit the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to reflect the proper location. (Thank you iTunes for continually changing things)
  • Important Note: Move the XML file to a different folder otherwise iTunes will delete it when you start it.
  • One last thing, yate can do almost anything you can think of using actions you can build yourself, reach out on yate forum if you need help achieving something specific, btw this includes finding duplicates. I use rekordbox app on my iPhone for music, means you can create playlists, beatgrid, set cues, rate music, change meta, etc on the go. Add further tags within rekordbox using mytag if you wish. Once you have the metadata correct, genre, year etc, you can filter down to whatever you like. Playlist management is done in rekordbox itself, or just use the filters which is even easier. Any changes to meta in yate, just reload tags in rekordbox, your file locations never change.

You can write an action to convert all your files from wav to flac but preserve the metadata.

You can use Yate app for Mac by 2MR to manage your files and metadata. Rekordbox itself? Chuck all your files in 1 folder on your hard drive/ssd, split this folder if you wish but if you do split it using something which won’t change if you correct the metadata, such as the first letter of the artist, not year or genre as this may change.

I have upwards of 800 WAV's and really don't fancy having to rename them allĬ) been able to import playlists from another software (say MusicBee or MediaMonkey) into rekordbox. I was wondering if anyone here has made the move from iTunes to a different music manager (I'm looking into MediaMonkey) and:Ī) been able to maintain all of your playlists created in iTunesī) been able to retain all the metadata for the WAV files since I know they don't store any meta data. I'm going to delete iTunes and hopefully find a program to help me delete all the duplicates from my library folder, I'll then look to reload my library into a new program. I am currently using iTunes however I am looking to change to a new music management program since iTunes is beginning to create more and more duplicates, both in my library folder and in my iCloud library. I am looking for some advice from people who have substantial music libraries (100+ GB) and who DJ using rekordbox.
